Biography: I was born a poor Southern girl in Birmingham, AL in late 1979. I was an odd, left-handed child, who had handwriting that drove every teacher (or college professor) that I ever had crazy. After taking a Drawing class in college I decided to follow my love for art and study it in college. In 2000, I was struck down with a chronic pain syndrome directly following a major surgery. It was a hard blow becoming a new mother and having my life completely changed physically all at the same time. I graduated college as a working mother in 2006 and received my art degree from the University of North Alabama. Currently, I live South of Memphis metro in a quiet place on the lake and work as a freelance illustrator and graphic artist.
Influences: I was a small child in the 1980's, so a lot of the culture from the times have been important in shaping who I am as a person. I was entranced by Miyazaki's animation as a child, the power of gaming as a visual media, and great illustrators and visionaries like Maurice Sendak and Jim Henson. I am heavily influenced by old and new comic artists, Japanese animation, concept art, character design, and the Impressionist art movement. I still love old cultural icons of the times, My Little Pony, Bob Ross, the bright rainbow tackiness that came with being a child of the 80's.
Tools: Primarily, I use Photoshop CS3 and a 9x12" Wacom Intous tablet. I also use various drawing material, pen and ink, oil paints, and linoleum printmaking materials.
Artist's Statement: "Art has been my essential method of communication, exploration, and expression since I was a child; it is my expression of strength despite my own personal frailty. My choice of subject matter is primarily females in landscape, but i enjoy drawing anything. I use the interaction of bold marks, shapes, color, depth, and light to create life as I see it, amplified, emotive, and in the moment. Generally, my images are duelist in nature; they will have a melancholy element and an element of beauty."
